In this game, as an expert miner, you must carefully shatter groups of identical blocks in the ice cave. The goal of this gem-collecting game is to collect valuable gemstones and money by clearing frozen clusters. To do so, you must choose sets with the same color. This game has a twist. The blocks move slowly and sneak up on you, making you make fast decisions.

In the game, you can find ice pieces and minerals. Every vertical block can be used to represent the depth of a mine. A miner is placed on three blue blocks of ice. Its job is to use pickaxes and throw them to the right to smash two or multiple matching blocks. The most points are awarded when gold blocks break. The gold blocks have skulls, jewels for multipliers and point jewels.

Gold Strike Icy Cave does not usually award points. Points are usually awarded to the player when they tell the miner which blocks contain gold or other objects. Once the player has reached their specified mining depth, a miner will do a dance. At the end of a level, the miner will dance to let the player know that they have reached the next level.

For the sake of giving the player time to plan an attack, the column can be removed from the screen to allow for rear blocks to move onto the display. If the gaps are large enough, they can also slow down the advance of the blocks towards the miner. Once the blocks hit him, it's game over.
